OUR

wool

Otematata Station sells its merino wool through The New Zealand Merino Company (NZM).

NZM was established in 1995 by merino farmers, to ensure farmers were getting premium prices for their merino wool (a commodity that can fetch up to six to ten times the price of strong wool). The company is currently 89% farmer owned so the farmer is represented in all decisions.

Formed to differentiate and innovate, NZM partners with the best farmers and international brands. In 2006 they developed the ZQ grower standard to give brands and consumers’ confidence that the wool has been managed in a way that puts quality, environmental sustainability, animal welfare, and social responsibility first; from the farmer through to the consumer.

Otematata Station has been ZQ certified since 2007. We are excited by this partnership and the opportunities that we can be involved with in the future.

Wool is a wonder fibre. It’s fire retardant, hypoallergenic, odour resistant, breathable, sustainable and it’s decomposable. Making it a superior product that comes from nature only to return there with a minimal footprint.
